The course deals with central concepts and dynamical phenomena in physical oceanography. The wind-driven and the thermohaline ocean circulations are studied on the basis of theory and observations; the aim is to illuminate the interplay between the large-scale circulation and the hydrography of the World Ocean. Also oceanic wave phenomena and small-scale processes are studied.

Admittance requirements

Knowledge corresponding to Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry, 30 hp (MO4000), or Meteorology I, 15 HECs (MO8001) and Meteorology II, 7.5 HEC's (MO8002). Also required is knowledge equivalent to English B/6.
