The course applies basic fluid dynamics to processes in the atmosphere and ocean. The starting point is a survey of the laws of fluid dynamics. The discussion of dynamic processes comprises geostrophic balance, thermal wind, as well as basic vortex dynamics and conservation laws. These ideas are applied to describe synoptic-scale motion in the atmosphere.

Admittance requirements

Knowledge corresponding to Meteorology I, 15 HECs (MO8001). Also required is knowledge equivalent to Swedish upper secondary school course English B.
