The latest version of the Community Earth System Model is now able to reproduce realistically a glacial inception. This provides strong support for the Milankovitch hypothesis, and allows us to analyze in detail the positive and negative feedback processes leading to the growth of the ice sheets during the ice ages. It also allows us to address the question of the glacial-interglacial variations of CO2. In this talk I will discuss the different feedback processes during glacial inception, and the processes that lead to the observed drawdown of CO2.
