Title
Review seminar: Determining the middle-atmosphere climate sensitivity by the climate feedback-response analysis method

Abstract
Calculating climate feedbacks is challenging: observed climate variations might not be in equilibrium, multiple processes are operating at the same time and moreover the geographical structures and timescales of different forcings differ.

Different methods have been developed to study these feedbacks. However, there are limitations connected with these, because they neglect nonradiative interactions between feedback processes and they only take into account feedbacks that directly affect the TOA radiation.

Recently, a new climate feedback analysis method has been developed: the climate feedback-response analysis method (CFRAM). This method is based on the energy balance in an atmosphere-surface column and makes it possible the isolate partial temperature changes due to an external forcing.

This method has now been extended to study the middle atmosphere: middle-atmosphere CFRAM (MCFRAM). In a recent study by Zhu et al. (2016), they apply this method to both observations and model output fields to study the middle atmosphere climate sensitivity.
