The Many Faces of Water Mass Transformation

An example of Water Mass Transformation (WMT) is the volume transport of water with a low temperature, into water with a higher temperature. Instead of temperature, one could use many properties, e.g. salinity, density, oxygen. Each property has a different meaning and can bring different insights into ocean physical and biogeochemical processes. In this presentation I will talk about past, present and future application of WMT. Specifically, its use to understand ocean circulation, mixing and biogeochemical tracer transport.
