Title

Improved understanding of clouds in the recent satellite era

Abstract

Ability to provide the cloud vertical structure, reconciliation of sensor differences and reprocessing of historical climate data have been the three major advances in cloud remote sensing in the recent years. The seminar provides an overview of how these advances are helping in improving our understanding of clouds globally and their role in the climate system. The questions that will be discussed are: How are cloudiness and cloud tops changing globally? What are the current estimates of cloud radiative radiative effects and their sensitivity to cloud phase?
